Toronto, Canada – In a first of its kind initiative, Marketers from across Canada were joined together virtually and physically in a moment of pause for a good cause. A friend of the industry is suffering from ALS, but he didn’t want any sympathy – just 10 minutes of time.
The event was a virtual gathering to bring marketers together for a live stream event to hear the story of Peter Vaz. Peter was a leader, business driver and good friend to all here at McCann Canada. As our VP, Director of Channel Engagement, he went above and beyond for his team and industry, including serving as Co-Vice Chair & Director of the IAB. After dedicating 23 years to the advertising business, Peter was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive, neurodegenerative disease for which there is no known cure.
Here’s the extraordinary thing: rather than asking for help for himself, he wants to help us raise awareness for the national advertising benevolent society (nabs).
nabs does its best to take care of industry professionals in need, but now they need help, too. Most of us who work in this industry probably already know someone who has reached out to nabs. From personal to career to family challenges, nabs is there when other support systems are not; but demand for nabs services is growing faster than the funding needed to support it.
Peter wanted to change that. He has been so well-supported by nabs that he felt compelled to share his story, and raise awareness on their behalf. It’s the reason this first-of-its-kind initiative came together. We must take care of our own.
