Asked about Amanda’s hire, Ryan Timms, President of McCann Canada, said, “We took our time finding the right leader to take the helm of our strategy practice here in Canada, and taking that time allowed us to look for the best of the best. When Josh Stein and I met AJ, we knew right away that she was the one. When you’re a part of the top-performing creative agency network in the world, you shouldn’t be surprised when the right person is actually already at McCann.”
McCann U.K. is recognized as one of the most creatively awarded McCann teams in the world, and AJ certainly contributed to that honour during her tenure there. Her strategic work spanned categories from healthcare to retail to travel, and the resulting creative garnered awards recognized for both efficacy and creativity. While working at McCann U.K., she was also a lecturer on Social Studies at the University of Central Lancashire. She is also an alumnus of the prestigious Account Planning Group’s Strategy Leaders of Tomorrow Program.
After McCann U.K., AJ took on the role of Chief Strategy Officer at McCann Bucharest, McCann’s regional hub for Central and Eastern Europe. There, she led strategy on businesses including Mastercard, The Coca-Cola Company, IKEA, Vodafone and YUM Group. Most recently, she helped guide the agency’s European clients through the trials and tribulations of the COVID-19 crisis.
As a testament to the sort of person she is, last year AJ led a team of volunteers to Tanzania as part of an “Out of Office for Good” partnership between McCann and Raleigh International – sharing professional skills with community volunteers and then developing a campaign to promote more sustainable living in one of the world’s most threatened environments. She is also a long-term mentor for Sport in Action, a charity that uses sport as a way of tackling some of the largest societal problems in the developing world. She has also been a mentor for Media Trust for the past five years, which encourages young, diverse talent to explore careers in the advertising industry.
Asked about joining us, AJ said, “McCann Canada has real momentum – and with that momentum comes an energy that’s infectious. I’m excited to join Ryan, Josh and the team in marrying the agency’s creative ambition with even greater strategic prowess to make work that we’re all deeply proud of.”
In her new role as Chief Strategy Officer, AJ will work with McCann Canada’s growing strategy team, including Josh Hansen who is the senior lead in the Toronto office, as well as several new senior hires across the country including VPs of Strategy Badr El Fekkak in Montreal and Russ Rickey in Calgary. Together they will serve the agency’s clients from coast to coast, helping to solve their business problems and become a deeper part of culture.
Welcome to the team, AJ!
