After university, my first job was with Federal Express. In those days, courier companies had to use passenger flights. I would make 10-15 domestic (India) or international flights a month. One time I had a 9 a.m. flight to Hong Kong with a return flight at 10 pm that evening. The flight developed engine problems before takeoff at Bombay. The delay was 9 hours, which meant I landed in Hong Kong at 6 pm, passed all the baggage on to Fedex there, and boarded the same flight back. When I landed in Bombay, the customs officers were very suspicious as I had no baggage. I was thoroughly interrogated by several officers to make sure I wasn’t a drug dealer or gold carrier.
